WONDERS OF THE ROSS SEA
This fabulous expedition takes us to the ice-choked Ross Sea. You will witness the majestic snow-capped volcano of Mount Erebus, and visit the world-renowned McMurdo Station and Scott Base as well as enormous Adélie Penguin rookeries. Explore by helicopter the Dry Valleys, an amazing landscape of wind-eroded rocks and desert scenery more reminiscent of Mars than Earth. Look for orcas and Minke whales as they feed along the edge of the permanent fast ice.

THE GREAT ANTARCTIC EXPLORERS
In February 1911, the first man to reach the South Pole, Roald Amundsen, sailed aboard Fram to a position estimated at 78º 41' S. Although nearly a century has passed, no ship has surpassed that record - yet. During this voyage, which pays homage to the heroic reputations of Antarctic explorers, Quark Expeditions will attempt to set a new record, adding to a long list of firsts about which the Kapitan Khlebnikov can boast.

This is your chance to be part of history, in the tradition of Cook, Ross, Scott, Shackleton, and, of course, Amundsen. In addition to a visit to the Bay of Whales, the closest area to the South Pole accessible by ship, you will visit the humbling remains of century old base camps, accompanied by a renowned Antarctic historian. At the same time specialists in marine biology, ornithology and glaciation provide expert commentary on the wildlife and scenery you encounter.

If you read the journals written by Antarctic explorers it becomes clear that no Antarctic expedition unfolded exactly as planned. Goals were revised and tasks reassigned to suit the local conditions, and the capabilities of the team members. In keeping with this tradition, our Great Antarctic Explorers expedition will change to take advantage of local conditions and special opportunities that may arise.

CROSSING THE ANTARCTIC CIRCLE
Very few people in the world can claim to have crossed the Antarctic Circle, reaching an extreme latitude at the very bottom of the world. Only the most adventurous travelers include this Circle on their life list of goals. Share this momentous achievement with a few select adventurers on board the Professor Molchanov.

LORDS OF ANTARCTICA

On these extraordinary voyages you are one of the privileged few to visit an Emperor Penguin rookery. Emperors are the largest of the penguins and the only birds to breed on frozen sea. At this time of year, large numbers of appealing gray chicks in different stages of development still huddle on the ice. Their hardworking parents trek miles over the ice to bring food to their fast-growing young. Sail past stunning tabular icebergs en route to the fast ice where the chicks await.

EXPLORERS' CRUISE
All three of our Explorers' Cruises take you to the Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas), South Georgia, the Antarctic Peninsula and the South Shetland Islands to view abundant Antarctic wildlife.

Visit scientific bases and enjoy breathtaking scenery - icy waterways, glaciers, icebergs, and rugged mountains. Depending on the itinerary, you embark and disembark in the ports of Ushuaia or Puerto Madryn in Argentina. As with our Classic Antarctica voyages, no two Explorers' Cruises are exactly alike.

The Captain and Expedition Leader continually assess daily weather conditions and wildlife opportunities to take full advantage of the extended daylight in order to maximize time ashore. We can guarantee an engaging adventure and memories that last a lifetime.

SEMICIRCUMNAVEGATION OF ANTARCTICA
